Kathryn M. Campbell

Kathryn M. Campbell is a Professor of Criminology at the University of Ottawa and a lawyer. For many years, she has conducted research on issues of equality and rights under the law for various individuals and groups, including the wrongly convicted, young persons, Indigenous justice and most recently animal law. Professor Campbell’s research in the area of animal law has explored welfare concerns for companion animals, as well as for animals in captivity. She is currently researching how far the question of animal rights may be extended under existing Canadian laws, as well as what needs to be done to advance greater rights recognition for animals.
